In this stimulating one-day workshop author and director David Farmer outlines a playful approach to directing. He explores how drama games can be used to develop characters, extend acting skills and create imaginative stagings of scenes. The approaches can be used with young children through to teenagers.
Participants will receive a signed copy of David Farmer’s latest book ‘Playful Plays’ and have the opportunity to work on scenes from the plays using approaches outlined during the day.
- Use drama games and practical techniques to discover new ways of approaching rehearsal
- Take part in activities designed to enhance creativity and encourage group co-operation
- Explore activities ranging from warm ups to group dynamics, movement, storytelling and voice exercises
- All notes are provided so that you can fully participate in the activities
- Attendance Certificates will also be supplied.
The course is suitable for anyone who wants to learn about directing plays with children and young people or is looking for new ideas and guidance. This highly accessible day is ideal as professional development for teachers, drama workers, actors, amateur or semi-professional theatre directors, or as an introduction for those wishing to develop their drama skills. The emphasis will be on a relaxed and informal atmosphere – you will leave inspired, refreshed and with a new skill set of ideas and approaches.
“On the way home my head was buzzing with all the ideas and how I plan to use them to create a theatre piece with my drama club (for age 6-11). The course has made me feel much more confident about taking the approach that I can ‘grow’ the play as a collaboration with the children, rather than just giving them a script and telling them what to do. The children were bursting with ideas and enthusiasm.” – Jocelyn Pye (February 2015).
“A great day. I learned a lot even though I’ve been teaching for 36 years!” – Peter Browne (February 2015).
“I am planning to stage a small musical with my Drama Club and will use lots of these ideas in the production and as part of my weekly club.” – Eilish Langham (February 2015).
