Course Tutor: David Farmer
This all-new one-day CPD drama course for teaching key stage 1 and 2 pupils focuses on inspirational games and strategies for improving writing – as well as speaking and listening skills. These lively and engaging activities involve every child in the creative process and aim to stimulate and excite pupils’ imaginations to inspire and support writing through drama. The fully participatory day includes dozens of new activities including lively word and storytelling games, story machines, “hot-spotting” and human storyboards.
The National Curriculum states that ‘drama and role-play can contribute to the quality of pupils’ writing by providing opportunities for pupils to develop and order their ideas through playing roles and improvising scenes in various settings.’
Participants have the opportunity to work with drama expert David Farmer, network with colleagues to discuss common problems and devise solutions to put into practice. Our two Primary Drama one-day courses can be attended independently of each other as they focus on different learning outcomes and entirely different content. Attending both days will give participants a rich panoply of drama resources to apply when working with primary-aged children.
David Farmer has recently developed a pilot schools’ project for Norwich UNESCO City of Literature for Children and Young People to inspire creative writing through drama in Norfolk schools. He was Writer in Residence at Time and Tide Museum in Great Yarmouth, has published four books on drama teaching, was a community arts projects manager, a primary school teacher and Artistic Director of Tiebreak Theatre Company for 24 years.
