Hi {!custom_fix first
name},
I present to you - the Whistle-Stop Tour of Drama
Resource! As this is the 60th edition of the free newsletter, it seemed
a good time to show how much the site has grown during the past years.
Before we set off, just a quick mention that Teaching
Drama Magazine has reviewed one of our courses in their current
edition. You can read about this as well as other news below.
So, grab your suitcase, hold onto your hats and let's
begin!
David Farmer,
Station Master, Drama Resource.
PS Joining us on the trip will be Tama, the famous Station Master cat from Japan!

Our first stop will be to visit some of the Drama Games
collected and developed by yours truly over the years, including
activities for mime, storytelling, improvisation, concentration,
warm-ups and sound. These playful techniques can be used to
stimulate creativity in children and adults, in education and the arts.
If you look out of the window, to your right you may notice Game of the Week - which changes every week!
More adventurous passengers who like working together to solve problems may wish to linger at Drama Strategies, ranging from Conscience Alley to Thought-Tracking.
These are ideal for teachers, enabling them to find stimulating and
active techniques for exploring a theme. Find out how drama strategies
work in curricular subjects by looking at lesson plans for The Gruffalo and World War Two Evacuees and feel free to adapt these around your own theme!
If you look at the monitors above your heads you will notice that Drama Resource also hosts in-depth free videos produced by Teachers’ TV so that you can see how drama approaches are used in the classroom, at primary and secondary levels.
Our creative journey today includes London and Manchester where
hundreds of teachers, teaching assistants, freelance drama
practitioners, actors and directors can be seen expressing themselves
and learning new approaches during the tailored one-day courses.
These like-minded people are exploring drama games and strategies (as
well as directing and devising techniques) so that they can take away
professional expertise to develop their own ideas.
You may wish to design your own itinerary for the final leg of the trip, to look at dozens of recommended books, reviews and articles. If you wish to continue the journey, you could always join our Facebook Fan Page to connect with hundreds of other collaborative people across the world.

"Informal and
inspiring course for all wanting to gain confidence in directing or get
new ideas on different techniques" - is how Teaching Drama Magazine describes Developing Directing Skills
in its current edition. As well as a full-length review of our highly
popular course, the backstage special edition provides a range of
articles and resources including how to make a prompt script and Schemes
of Work ranging from Aboriginal dreamtime to Victorian London.
Drama is an effective way of helping students to learn languages
including English as a Second Language (ESL), as it uses active
teaching and learning styles likely to motivate and sustain the
attention of a wider cross section of pupils. Activities can include
role-play, drama games, improvisation, group discussion and individual
or pair work. Our new page Drama for Language Learning gives suggestions for games and activities suited to a range of learning levels.
A new example and downloadable free template have been added to Role on the Wall.

for cross-curricular
approaches followed by a chance to develop and try out your
own ideas.
Learning through Drama (Special Educational Needs)
explores an inclusive approach to drama, enabling all children to learn through
imagined experience.
The new courses The
Spark, The Flame, The Fire and Extending Directing Skills
