Course Tutor: David Farmer

We now offer three one-day courses about drama teaching with primary students (5-11 years). Find out more

David Farmer delivers this new course comprising exciting lesson plans suitable for KS1 and KS2 taken from his forthcoming book Drop Of A Hat Drama. As well as practical and interactive demonstrations there will be detailed lesson plans to take away. The course is suitable for teachers and practitioners to use in the primary school classroom/drama club. No prior knowledge is necessary.

Time is allocated to developing drama ideas linked to themes or stories which participants are planning to teach. This will generate additional material to teach and we will share the ideas afterwards via DropBox and a private Facebook Group.

  • Topics include: A Midsummer Night’s Dream (KS1/2), Funnybones (KS1), Refugees (KS2), Newspaper Headlines and The King’s Sentence (KS1/2)
  • Includes full notes and lesson plans so that you can concentrate on participating in the activities
  • Attendance Certificate presented

What they said about Developing Drama in the Primary School:

‘I was particularly inspired by how to manage teaching Shakespeare and the real emotion provoked by the refugee unit! I will be rewriting our schemes of work to incorporate as many new ideas as possible.’ – Jennifer Carr, Participant, February 2019.

‘I’ve spent some time reworking, devising and plotting new schemes ready to roll out in the summer! Very exciting!’ – Jodie Rayner, Participant, February 2019.

‘It was amongst the best delivered and organised CPD I have ever attended. This was thanks to the mix of practical activity, resources and opportunities to talk. It was very useful for me to hear about the sorts of drama being taught in schools and heartening to meet so many people passionate about the subject.’ – Elizabeth Kane, Learning Officer, The Customs House, February 2019.

This one-day Drama INSET course is suitable for teachers, teaching assistants and freelancers from schools and other organisations.
