Course Tutor: David Farmer
In this one day master class, David Farmer leads a practical series of games, activities and methods based on his professional experience of creating performances and workshops with his company Tiebreak Theatre and his other freelance directing work.
The sessions include games and exercises for devising and directing, for encouraging playfulness and creativity as well as professional (and fun) warm ups for voice and body. These methods help the teacher/director to develop an ensemble approach, to consider ways into devising and to explore techniques for creative play directing.
The day will act as a refresher for the drama specialist and an opportunity to network with other professionals. Participants will be provided with extensive notes to take away for developing best practice in the drama studio and classroom.
Drama Games for developing ensembles
These games will open up ways into devising scenes and developing team work, as well as looking at some physical and vocal warm-ups. There will be opportunities for discussion and sharing of experiences of making theatre.
Physical approaches to devising and directing
We will work on script extracts and explore a number of ways into exploring and presenting these. Extracts will include some Shakespeare and other material related to a range of age-groups
Below are two videos from a workshop led by David Farmer in Buenos Aires in May 2018.
David Farmer has worked extensively as a theatre director and producer of shows and workshops for children, young people and adults across the world, He was an adviser to the Shakespeare Schools Festival and is the author of several best-selling books on drama, including 101 Drama Games and Activities and Learning Through Drama in the Primary Years as well as numerous plays and articles. He was Artistic Director of Tiebreak Theatre from 1981 to 2005 during which time he directed shows for schools, theatres and festivals across the UK as well as Canada and the USA. He is currently directing Kure Kure/Faraway featuring Anna Mudeka for a UK tour.
