Course Tutor: David Farmer

Drama helps learners to actively use language and to boost confidence, creativity and spontaneity through role-play, games and improvisation. These activities can be used across a range of language levels and age-groups, including primary, secondary and adult education. Drama makes learning fun and memorable while giving students the chance to understand the importance of non-verbal communication and body language alongside spoken language.

This motivating one-day course is based on drama games and strategies which have been developed by David Farmer over many years working at Norwich Institute for Language Education (NILE) as well as at numerous international conferences and workshops. The one-day face-to-face course will give you dozens of practical takeaways to use immediately in the language-learning classroom alongside other teaching techniques.

You will learn:

  • Why and how to use drama games in language learning
  • Interactive warm up games adapted for language learning
  • Quick and fun activities to use in the classroom or a larger space
  • Getting to know you games
  • Games for practising and exploring vocabulary
  • Interactive and creative games for revising and testing knowledge
  • How to develop improvisation through freeze frames and thought tracking
  • How to bring text and course books to life through drama activities

David Farmer is a specialist in drama who trains teachers as well as working with students in schools.
