This book outlines a highly practical and original approach to exploring Shakespeare with primary-aged children. The author focuses on four plays – The Tempest, Macbeth, A Midsummer Night’s Dream and Romeo and Juliet. His approaches focus on bringing the stories alive through active drama, exploring the characters through improvisation and enjoying the language. The book is packed with ideas, based on techniques that will be familiar to some teachers and most drama teachers, along with some novel approaches of the author’s, such as a Red Nose Day to introduce the concept of clowning in A Midsummer Night’s Dream. There are cross-curricular links as well as writing and craft activities.
