What’s not to like? The free version of the Shakespeare app features the full texts of 40 plays, six poems and 154 sonnets. It automatically remembers the last page you read, you can use it in landscape mode to make the most of the screen and you can even search the concordance. I found 15 instances of “varlet” in 10 plays. The Pro version (£5.99) adds just one more play to make it up to the complete works, however it also gives you several other features, including Tales from Shakespeare (for younger audiences), scene breakdowns, shake for a random quote and a contextually sensitive glossary for any word.
How exciting that the app is rated 12+ for the following reasons: Infrequent/Mild Alcohol, Tobacco, Drug Use or References to these; Infrequent/Mild Horror/Fear Themes; Infrequent/Mild Mature/Suggestive Themes; Infrequent/Mild Sexual Content or Nudity; Frequent/Intense Cartoon or Fantasy Violence; Infrequent/Mild Profanity or Crude Humour; Frequent/Intense Realistic Violence! Shakespeare would have been proud.
