Marking the Moment
Marking the Moment is a dramatic technique used to highlight a key moment in a scene or improvisation.
Write down any moments that are key in your scene. They could be linked to a word, a line, an action or a moment of high tension, such as the exit of a character.
The moment can be marked in a number of different ways: for example through slow-motion, a Freeze-Frame, narration, Thought-Tracking, sound effects, lighting or music. Even without a lighting change, the strategy is similar to using a spotlight to focus attention on one area of the stage at a particular moment during a performance.
The technique can be used in combination with Cross-Cutting to pause and highlight a moment in one scene while another scene comes to life.
